North-East Development Commission Managing Director, Alkali In Alleged Multi-Billion Naira Corruption Scandal

NEDC was among other objectives, established to rebuild the infrastructure and institutions destroyed by Boko Haram in the North-East.

Contrary to its mandate of rebuilding critical infrastructure in the North-East, massive corruption has allegedly taken over the North-East Development Commission, NEDC.

NEDC was among other objectives, established to rebuild the infrastructure and institutions destroyed by Boko Haram in the North-East.

However, instead of sticking with its mandate, the Managing Director of the commission, Mohammed Goni Alkali has been embroiled in a multi-billion naira corruption scandal.

A group, North-East Vanguard, claimed to have unearthed massive corruption involving billions of naira at the commission.

Besides allegedly embezzling billions of naira, the group further accused Alkali of running the commission with nepotism.

In a document jointly signed by the group’s National Coordinator and National Secretary, Pwasato Aaron, and Goni Umar Muazu respectively, the group called on anti-graft agencies to beam its searchlight on NEDC

The document seen by the media reads in part, “The Managing Director, Mohammed Goni Alkali, takes home as monthly salary, N8.5 million without recourse to the Salaries and Wages Commission.

“This is apart from a whopping N300 million as running cost for his office per annum. How justifiable is that?

“Since its establishment, no single employment has been carried out, as Mohammed Goni Alkali, singlehandedly hand-picked from the ministries, people from his own tribe of Kanuri (90% of the about 60 staff members of the commission are Kanuri).

“Purchase by the Managing Director of 100 Hilux pick-up vans for the military and other security personnel at the cost of N28 million each, against the market value of N17 million in 2020, without any recourse to the board, an act which completely negates the country’s procurement laws.

“The Managing Director singlehandedly procured all Covid-19 equipment to the tune of N5 billion without approval from the board and procurement procedures.

“Five billion naira that was approved and released as special funds for Ngwom Housing Estate is missing in transit between the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the office of the Managing Director of the commission.”

Other infractions allegedly committed by Alkali were said to involve the diversion of funds meant for the purchase of houses for staff members.

Other monies alleged to have been squandered involved the construction of corporate headquarters in Maiduguri, as well as mass housing across the six North-East states.

It added, “Funds meant for the production of the master plan of the region are being stolen through bogus contracts using pseudo names.

“Funds appropriated two years ago to establish 18 additional computer training centres have been misappropriated by the Alkali management.

“Funds meant for the construction of offices in the six states of the region have been diverted to other personal uses.

“Funds meant for the construction of ‘Mega Schools’ in the 18 senatorial zones of the region have disappeared

“Tractors and other agricultural equipment, approved and fully funded, have yet to be purchased, two years after, while billions of naira are being spent on fraudulent food procurement at the expense of farmers of the region.

“Billions of naira spent on the defunct PCNI liabilities should be thoroughly investigated as some of the claims cannot be validated.

“The board of the North-East Development Commission Education Endowment Fund-NEDCEF was inaugurated on August 7, 2020, as an educational component of the commission, but for close to one year now, the board has not been able to take off, let alone achieve its core mandate of interventions in the education sub-sector, because of meddlesomeness and needless frustrations by the Managing Director.

“Instead, funds earmarked for interventions by NEDCEF are being diverted for personal use by members of the Board Of Trustees.

“It is no surprise that during the recent presidential visit to Borno state by President Muhammadu Buhari, no single NEDC project was commissioned.”

North-East Vanguard is worried that the National Assembly has abruptly abandoned its probe of the NEDC which it launched on July 23, 2020.

As gathered, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission  ICPC, has picked some directors of the commission for questioning.

Furthermore, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has also beamed its searchlight on allegations of financial misappropriation in the commission.

North-East Vanguard, therefore, urges President Muhammadu Buhari to officially suspend Alkali, to allow free investigation into the issues raised.

Meghan and Harry spent three days in the African country, Nigeria in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex spent time in Nigeria as part of a three-day tour, in celebration of the 10th anniversary of The Invictus Games.

The couple were personally invited on the trip by Nigeria’s chief of defence staff, General Christopher Musa; they are not there in any official capacity on behalf of the royal family or the UK. The tour schedule, which started in the bustling capital of Abuja, has been jam-packed, including a visit to primary and secondary school Lightway Academy, where they met with students, and experiencing the work of Nigeria Unconquered, a charitable foundation dedicated to aiding wounded, injured, or sick servicemembers.

Naturally, the trip also provided the opportunity for Meghan to showcase a multi-day “tourdrobe”, the likes of which we haven’t seen since the couple stepped down as senior working royals in early 2020 – and she hasn’t disappointed, in a series of summery maxi dresses, elegant tailoring and striking separates.

See highlights from their trip so far, below.

On day three, the couple arrived at Lagos airport, where they were given an official state welcome.

The couple posed for a photo with children and Nigerian dignitaries.

Photographer alleges he was forced to watch Megan Thee Stallion have sex and was unfairly fired

Published

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A photographer who worked for Megan Thee Stallion said in a lawsuit filed Tuesday that he was forced to watch her have sex, was unfairly fired soon after and was abused as her employee.

In the suit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, Emilio Garcia said that after a night out in 2022 in Ibiza, Spain, he was in an SUV with the hip-hop star when she began having sex with another woman right next to him. He was unable to get out of the moving car, and would have been in the middle of nowhere in a foreign country even if he was able. Garcia was “embarrassed, mortified and offended throughout the whole ordeal,” according to the lawsuit.

Alex Spiro, Megan’s lawyer, said she would fight the lawsuit in court.

“This is an employment claim for money — with no sexual harassment claim filed and with salacious accusations to attempt to embarrass her,” Spiro said.

The next day Megan told Garcia never to discuss what he saw and berated and fat-shamed him, the lawsuit said. The complaint also said Garcia, who had already considered quitting because he was overworked and underpaid in a hostile work environment aggravated by Megan’s possessiveness and abusiveness, was misclassified as an independent contractor but treated as an exclusive employee.

Garcia raised those issues in the conversation with Megan, and was fired the following day after four years of working for her, the suit said. He has since filed a job discrimination complaint with the California Civil Rights Department.

The lawsuit, first reported by NBC News, names as defendants Megan, whose legal name is Megan Pete; her companies Megan Thee Stallion Entertainment and Hot Girl Touring; and her label, Roc Nation. A defense response has yet to be filed. There was no immediate response to an email seeking comment from a representative of Roc Nation.

Garcia is seeking financial damages to be determined at trial, alleging he has suffered severely both emotionally and physically because of his treatment on the job, the firing and having to witness the scene in the SUV.

Megan, 29, was previously involved in major legal drama — and underwent a torrent of online abuse — as the victim of a shooting by rapper Tory Lanez, who a jury found fired at her feet on a street in the Hollywood Hills in 2020. She testified at the trial where jurors convicted Lanez of three felonies and a judge sentenced him to 10 years in prison.

Already a major rising artist at the time of the shooting, Megan has since become one of hip-hop’s biggest stars. She won a Grammy for best new artist in 2021, and she had No. 1 singles with “Savage,” featuring Beyoncé, and as a guest on Cardi B’s “WAP.”
