Senator Ted Cruz may be in for a challenge with people coming out to try and take his seat. Cruz is running for a third term in the U.S. Senate, but others are trying to unseat him.

As mentioned a few days ago, Navy Veteran and Law Professor Steven Keough announced he was running for Senate.

Another competitor, Colin Allred (D-Texas) has an early jump at least in campaign financing. The Dallas Representative Allred announced he was running for Senate in May.

Paige Hutchinson, Allred’s campaign manager said in a statement:

“Since day one this campaign has been about bringing people together to beat Ted Cruz and give this state the leadership it deserves. We are amazed at the outpouring of support, and more confident than ever that we will have the resources to win next November and send Ted Cruz packing.”

According to his campaign, Allred had 97,600 donors which led to $6.2 million he has raised. Allred has amassed over $8.6 million for his campaign.

Allred is a North Texas Congressman originally from Dallas and he graduated from Baylor University. He is also a former Tennesse Titans football player where he played linebacker.

In the previous race, Cruz met competition from Democrat Beto O’Rourke, former presidential candidate, and Texas Democratic challenger for governor Beto O’Rourke. Governor Greg Abbott easily beat O’Rourke as he won his third term in office.

A University of Texas at Tyler poll conducted in May showed Cruz had the lead with 42% over Allred who came in with 37% among people polled.

The election for U.S. Senate is on November 5, 2024.
