Kanunta Kanu, younger brother of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has said the military wing of IPOB, Eastern Security Network (ESN) will continue to defend persons living in the eastern part of the country against criminals.
The ESN which was launched in the second week of December 2020, was described as the network was created to ensure the South-East region’s security and prevent terrorists, bandits, and other invaders from harassing the people of the region.
“Unveiling the Eastern Security Network. This Is our answer to insecurity and Fulani terrorism,” Kanu wrote on Facebook at that time.

Taking to his Twitter handle on Wednesday, Kanunta Kanu wrote, “#IPOB is always right. They don’t want our vigilante group #ESN in #Biafraland, but they’re recruiting more than 3000 vigilantes in the North for what?
“We don’t need anybody to defend our people #ESN will do that and #Biafraland will not be like Agwatyap people of Kaduna State.”
IPOB has always maintained that it is “wading off the bandits and killer herdsmen in our forests and communities who are also pursuing the Fulanisation agenda.”
IPOB officials also claimed that since the formation of the ESN, efforts to flush out Fulani herders out of the zone had intensified.
Meanwhile, Nnamdi Kanu is still in the custody of the Department of State Services since his arrest and extradition to Nigeria in June.
He was arraigned with a blindfold before Justice Binta Nyako, a judge of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Kanu is facing charges bordering on treasonable felony instituted against him at the court in response to years of the campaign for the independent Republic of Biafra through IPOB.
He was granted bail in April 2017 for health reasons but skipped bail after flouting some of the conditions given to him by the court.
