Local Hunter, Others To Spend 14 Years Behind Bars For Buying Stolen Cell Phones

Upper Area Court 4 sitting in Yola, Adamawa state capital has sentenced 2 Local Hunters and 3 others to 14 years imprisonment with an option of N100, 000 for receiving stolen property.

The convicts, Sani Umar (Wizkid), Abdulhadi Hayatu (Daba), Abubakar Idris (Kwaro), Mujahid Muhammad Mujahid and Adamu Usman(Mai Mata).

The offence is contrary to section 307 and punishable under section 308 of penal code law, 2018.

They were arrested by the security outfit “Operation Farauta” and the Department of State Security Service (DSS) and subsequently arraigned before the court on the 29th November, 2021.

The convicts Sani and Abdulhadi (Local Hunter), from Wauru Jabbe in Yola South local government area, bought 11 stolen handsets, while Abubakar, an electrician and bricklayer, Mujahid, a capenter and Adamu, a wilder all residents of Wauru Jabbe and Yelwa in Jambutu, Yola North local government area bought 9 GSM mobile phones from different people, having known that the cell phones are stolen.

All the convicts admitted to the charges read to them by the prosecution counsel A. M. Iliyasu,(Senior State Counsel II).

During the trial, confessional statements and testimony of the prosecution witnesses were tendered and admitted in evidence without objection.

Delivering the ruling, the presiding judge, Hon. Ibrahim Musa Ulenda, convicted and sentenced them to 14 years in prison each with an option of N100, 000 each based on the evidence tendered before the court.
