Bandits Abduct Four University Staff, Children In Abuja

Suspected bandits in the early hours of today (Tuesday) have attacked the staff quarters of the University of Abuja abducting four staff and their children.

A resident, Dzarma Idris, said sporadic gunshots started at 12:14am before some members staff were took away.

He said the gunmen operated for over two hours before abducting seven persons.

Dr Habib Yakoob, Head of Information and Public Relations of the University who confirmed the development in a statement said the University’s Safety officers, in conjunction with security personnel, have been mobilized to secure the quarters.

The statement read in part: “Suspected bandits attacked the staff quarters of the University in the early hours of today.”

“Our Safety officers, in conjunction with security personnel, mobilised to secure the quarters.

“We have reported that four of our staff and their children were, nevertheless, abducted by the evil men. Efforts are being made to ensure their safe return. A sad day for us, indeed.”

Also, confirming the attack, the spokesperson of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, Josephine Adeh, said the security operatives are on top of the situation.

She did not give details of the number of persons abducted.
